Keeping up to date with wood floor installation methods and products

We believe that the balance between training, qualifications and experience are essential in providing the best installation possible. Our fitters have all of these and go on regular courses to keep abreast of the constantly changing products available. Our aim is to identify products that function better than the previous ones and offer benefits to the longevity of the flooring and its installation. To this end our fitters attend courses provided by the manufacturers to learn about the best products and how to use them.

Trained and qualified wood floor fitters

The benefit of having fitters that are qualified carpenters that are also fully trained in all aspects of wood floors is that we can fit skirting boards, trim doors, etc. meaning we can do a complete installation with one team. Installing wood flooring in the correct way and with the correct materials is paramount in getting value for money and having a finish to be proud of that will last for many many years.

What happened to my wood flooring?

The installation of your wood flooring is at least as important as buying the correct product. Our teams install floors everyday and as well as being qualified floor fitters they have built up huge experience in all aspects of installing wood floors correctly. Why take a chance on somebody that thinks they know how to do it? A bad installation will never look correct and could potentialy store up a terrible legacy if moisture levels are not checked or the flattening of the sub-floor is not carried out correctly.

Poorly fitted wood flooring

Common mistakes by inexperienced and poorly trained "wood floor fitters":

Failing to read instructions provided with the flooring

Moisture levels not checked

Sub-floor not levelled to within wood floor tolerances.

Using incorrect levelling materials

Poor quality or incorrect underlays or adhesives used

Using the wrong tools or poor quality tools

Not keeping the planks, end and side joints tight

Incorrect staggering of the boards

Laying a floor over 4/5 metres wide without providing for extra expansion

Not checking the quality of the planks before installing

Allowing too much or too little for wastage (cutting of the planks)

Not fitting off a straight line but from a wall that is not square

Not leaving the correct expansion gap

Poor undercutting of architrave

Fitting solid wood flooring when engineered would be more suitable
