Smoking

Smoked Flooring for Rich, Unique Tones

With the same principles used to define a wood’s grade, the smoking process is also dictated by specific factors. Any colours accomplished using the smoking process use controlled measures to achieve either a light, medium, or dark smoked finish.

They are, however, still a product of nature and will react with the natural tannins in oak, leading to variation. This must be understood when choosing this kind of floor.

Grading

Wood Flooring Grading Options

Our Prime and Rustic grades are defined by the presence of knots, sapwood, and natural colour tones in the wood.

  • Prime grade plank wood close up.

    Prime Grade

Prime grade features a clean, refined look with little to no knots, and any that do appear will be very small. Sapwood at the core or edges, as well as filler, will be minimal or absent altogether. The timber will show only slight variation in shade and will not contain heartwood.

  • Rustic grade plank.

    Rustic Grade

Rustic grade highlights the wood’s natural character with visible grain, colour variation, and knots—up to 60mm if sound and 25mm if dead. Heartwood, minor sapwood, and filler may be present. Fillers are tinted to complement the timber, though shades can vary between batches.

Textures

Textured Wood Floor Finishes

Our textured floors are achieved using both unique and conventional techniques.

  • Bandsaw

The Bandsawn textured floors have traditional cut marks across the face of the floor, a process that can be adjusted for depth.

  • Brushed

Brushing opens up the grain. Light, medium and heavy options are available, this process enhances the natural beauty of the wood.

  • Tumbled

Tumbled floors are distressed to replicate as if they have experienced a long and hard life, achieving a look that is genuinely old.
